Burning Man has been on pandemic-enforced hiatus for the last two years. My son and I last went in 2018, so it’s been a while.
We are not veteran Burners. We have only gone twice. Because he was young at the time, my son and I experienced Burning Man mainly for the art and culture and the experience of being with so many amazing people from around the world.
This time, this year, we’d like to try to give something back. Burning Man is created by Burners; infused with their creativity and expressiveness and enthusiasm to create a home, if only for a week. We’ve been bystanders to this point, and we want to change that.
This year, we are going to attempt an art car, a Mutant Vehicle.
There’s a long road ahead, and a short time to get there. This site will try to document the process of creating this vehicle, documenting the design, the challenges, and hopefully the successes.
I’ve enjoyed building and crafting things for a long time. It’s not my day job, my profession, but it’s a genuine passion at times. Building a vehicle, even if starting from an existing vehicle, is something new for my son and I. We welcome the challenge. We’re going to lean heavily at times upon our friends, who have some of the expertise we’ll need to complete this project.
We’re only at the application process to this point. We are grateful for the immense amount of time and effort it takes for the Burning Man organization to bring everyone together. The DMV works hard to ensure the safety and integrity of the event, and we hope that this project will rise to the level of acceptance this year.
Thank you DMV Hotties for your work. Even if our vehicle is not invited for inspection this year, we’ll still be there on our bikes, in the dust, gaping in wonder at all of the amazing vehicles who made the cut.
